Key West: June 11

We were pretty much out of clothes after 10 days on the boat so we had to do laundry. Debbie briefly mentioned using a bucket to wash our clothes to avoid public washing machines. But our bucket is the one she used to thaw bait yesterday. Hmmm…. What to do?!?

The marina has multiple laundry rooms with private codes. No one was using the one we went to. Maybe because it was 7-freaking-thirty on a SATURDAY.

We brought quarters but you had to have a CARD to operate the machines. So I had to go back and get a credit card to buy a laundry card.  It was $5 which is the exact cost of a laundry load and a dryer load. We had two loads so I bought two cards.

We poured in the soap, punched the buttons, inserted the card and… nothing. So we changed the order of things and… nothing. So we unplugged the first machine and tried again to no avail. Opened the lid, closed the lid, switched cards. Nothing. Debbie called the marina which was closed. Finally she went outside I think in search of a deep site in the marina in which to shove the flipping machines. There she encountered a nice guy who lives aboard a Sunseeker yacht.  He explained that you purchase the card for $5 but to actually put money on your account, it costs more! Who knew?!?! We ponied up for ANOTHER $10 and it actually worked. Clean clothes! But I have a feeling Debbie will be scrubbing the bucket before the next time!

So after the laundry and lunch, we rode bikes downtown  to shop. We needed to hydrate so we got some frozen drinks at the Flying Monkey. In truth, those fuckers have always creeped me out, but the drinks were fabulous…  what was weird was the guy at the bar behind Debbie in the photo who had WINGS tattooed on his back . Thank God they were folded or else he would have occupied three seats!

After shopping we rode back to the boat for a fabulous dinner featuring yesterday’s catch and  salad we caught at Publix.

Very happy to have e-bikes or the ride into town every day would kick our butts!
