Day Seven: Hilton Head

We left Charleston before 7am en route to Hilton Head. We had hoped to run offshore but the winds were howling so the seas were too rough. Instead we stayed in the ICW and enjoyed a rather circuitous 9 hour ride to Hilton Head just north of the Georgia state line. We officially are more than halfway home. Approximately 280 more miles to go out of our 640 mile journey.

Harbourtown Marina is a beautiful spot adjacent to the inlet. The boats here are mostly yachts and the people appear wealthy. Except us. We came in on the used boat and hadn’t showered. When we DID manage to find the showers, they were in the golf clubhouse so, as you can imagine, we fit right in.
Tomorrow we plan to stick our nose out the inlet and attempt to run offshore. This will save us about 40 miles as we travel to St. Simon’s Island in Georgia.

We discovered another leak but, this time, it wasn’t the boat- it was the air mattress! I noticed when Debbie got out of bed this morning that the mattress seemed to envelope me like a cocoon. And then I bottomed out. Perhaps it is all of the food and no exercise. I was actually  a little relieved to find out it wasn’t holding air. The back up replacement is even smaller. This should prove interesting!
Cool wall art we saw at Fleet Landing in Charleston.

Does this mean the bicycles are coming on next voyage?
