Day Four: Screw it. Let’s Burn Some Fuel.

We got off the dock at 6:45 and headed for Myrtle Beach. The cats ate, then played, then slept for most of the day. The weather was nice but a constant outgoing tide and waiting for a swing bridge hampered our progress.

We made it into South Carolina and time stood still with constant no wake zones and an area called “The Rock Pile” that puckered Debbie’s butt. This is a passage so narrow that you cannot pass a barge without going onto the rocks. You have to call ahead to check first!

The mansions along the ICW in Myrtle Beach are phenomenal. Cascading lawns lead to the river with golf courses around every bend.

In the down time, I went through all of the owner’s manuals and arranged stuff while Deb drove.  We talked about some of the projects we want to take on when we get her home.

I guess I should have started with the basics. The boat is a 37’ Maryland model power catamaran built in France by Fountaine Pajot in 2002. She has a 16.5 foot width giving her a spacious interior. What is NOT spacious is the one currently operable toilet. This IKEA-sized unit cannot possibly be rated for my spacious ass. Additionally, the flush is loud enough to function as a horn which we have contemplated since we don’t have one. I have been Googling marine toilets this afternoon.

The boat’s name is Katitude which we like but we may change the spelling. She has three staterooms, two bathrooms, a nice kitchen and a dining room table. There is a steering station downstairs and one upstairs in the flybridge.

She is a slow boat, but we have plenty of time. But not much patience so we jacked up the rpm’s from the fuel efficient 1650 to 2200. We may get home in time for my birthday in June.

The biggest issue right now is that she leaks like a sieve from up top (not the part in the water) and it is supposed to rain tomorrow. It’s okay though because we packed foul weather gear. The fact that some of the leaks are over the beds is a bit of a problem. So we are going to tape plastic over some of the hatches. Won’t WE look special?!?!?

Tomorrow’s blog may be interesting!
