Day Eight: Houston, We Have a Problem

We left Hilton Head before 7 and headed out the lengthy channel. It is important to stay in the channel because it can be only a couple of feet deep outside of it. The onshore breeze coupled with some swells made for a bouncy ride out for our first offshore excursion.

On our way out we passed a tugboat bringing in a disabled mega yacht. That’s when the fun began.

I had been playing with the cats but left to take the photo. When I came back in, Gaff was attempting to cover something up on the floor. It was barf.

I relieved him of his duties and wrapped up the towels. It was clear it was not his but Peanut’s breakfast. Before I could stop him, he went to the other side of the boat and barfed on that deck and then back to port for the third barf. At least they were getting smaller.

Poor thing curled up in a ball on the couch and finally fell asleep with Gaffer by his side.

We were committed now and could not come about. After we got out of the channel and headed south, things calmed down a little. In fact, Debbie decided it was calm enough to pump out the heads. So I took the wheel while she emptied the tanks. As the smell of raw sewage filled the air, I thought about joining Peanut in the barfing department.

Thankfully, things calmed down even more and we made the 86 mile trip in only 8 hours.

Deb brought her into the dock like she’s had her all her life. We tied up, took on a little fuel and enjoyed some beers in the flybridge. Doesn’t get much better than that!
Tomorrow we head to St. Augustine. It’ll be another long day but God has answered Peanut’s prayers so we are staying in the ICW. CHEERS!
